Why can’t more Christians pay attention to the parts where Jesus says to be loving and compassionate?

Undercover Nun continues to ask the same question, as have the great prophets in every generation back to about Abraham. The greatest commandment is pretty simple: Love God. Love everybody else. Alas, simple does not always equal easy. Some people are hard to like, so we avoid loving them, as if this is a valid reason.
Undercover Nun isn’t always easy to like (especially when she’s spouting off about everybody else being so hateful), but I try my very best to be loving at all times. Loving-kindness is the principle I try to live by. And if I’m having trouble, I tell God about it. I believe, down to the inmost depths of my heart, that God’s most favorite prayer ever goes something like this:
God, you know I don’t like this guy. I think he’s a big fat jerk. I know you want me to love him. I don’t think I can do that on my own. I don’t even know if I want to. But you want me to, so I’ll try, even if it’s hard because he’s such a jerk. Can you help me to love him, or even to want to love him, God? Please?
Undercover Nun also believes, to the inmost depths of her heart, that this is the one prayer to which God always responds with, “Yes! Yes, my beloved child, yes!”
